Best solar panels for a balcony
The best balcony panel is the one that fits your railing, catches the most sun in your spot and comes as part of a certified kit. For most balconies that’s one or two rigid 400–500 W panels.

How to pick
| Your situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Standard railing, sturdy, sunny | Two rigid 400–500 W panels |
| Narrow or short railing | Smaller rigid panels, or one large panel |
| Weak railing, weight limits | Flexible panels, accepting less power |
| Bright floor or open view behind | Bifacial panels can add a little |
Why it should come as a kit
Panels and microinverter are certified together. Swapping parts can take the system outside its certification. More on panels.
Common questions
How many panels do I need?
Most 800 W kits use two 400 W panels. A narrow railing may fit one large panel or several small ones.
Are flexible panels worth it?
Only when weight or shape rules out a rigid panel. They're lighter, but generally make less power and age faster.
What warranty should a panel have?
Look for a clear power-output warranty and a product warranty, and check how long each runs.
Can I buy panels separately and add my own inverter?
Technically yes, but you'll likely lose the kit certification your state requires. Buy panels and inverter together.
